She was an early childhood educator and advocate, and co-founder of the DuPage Children’s Museum in Naperville Illinois. Beloved wife of the late William W. Carpenter, loving mother of David (Orit), Donald (Leslie), Douglas, and the late Stephen and the late Carol Carpenter Wilgus. Grandmother of Taryn Wilgus-Null (Corey), Johanna Carpenter (Alex Lyden-Horn), Amanda Wilgus, Julie Carpenter (William Cassata), Alison Carpenter, and Janelle Carpenter. Roderick E. "Rod" Darby, age 73, of Oak Brook, died September 17, 2010. He was the loving son of the late Dr. Russell C. Darby and Gladys nee Wentland; loving father of the late Jeffery Darby, also survived by his beloved wife Netti nee Gilkey and Son Todd (Tarsi); four grandchildren Adam, Austin, Aaron and Ali; sister Nadine Hanneman. After completing his residency in Radiology, he entered into the military service for two years. Henry L. Fox passed away on August 11, 2010 at his home in Burr Ridge, IL. He was born on May 15, 1925, the son of Jack and Mary Fox. He was preceded in death by his brother, Van, and by his wife of 47 years, Dorothy Ann Fox. He is survived by his sister, Betty Fox Nicholson, wife Syd Syran Fox; son Hank Fox and daughter Anne Fox Racke; grandchildren Will Racke and Carolyn Racke; several children and grandchildren of Mrs. Syran Fox. Henry grew up in TN. The death of his parents caused him to move to his aunt, Mrs. Paul Mertz, of River Forest. He graduated from Oak Park-River Forest Township High School. He attended Depauw University where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He later received his Naval Officer’s commission from Columbia University. His active duties included the Office of Strategic Services and Motor Torpedo Boats in the Pacific. He was active in Grace Church as a vestryman and was a director of the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, Hinsdale Golf Club, St. Charles Manufacturing Company, Harris Bank Hinsdale, The Enterprise Group, and Templeton, Kenly Manufacturing Company. His favorite motto was "You win some,you lose some, and some get rained out, but you’ve gotta suit up for every game." A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday August 25, at 11 a.m., at Grace Episcopal Church, 125 E. First Street, Hinsdale, IL 60521. Christopher C. Getch, M.D., 50, of Hinsdale died unexpectedly Monday January 9, 2012 at his residence. Dr. Getch was born December 22, 1961 to John Getch and Mary Jane Caldwell of Milton, MA. Dr. Getch was Professor of Neurosurgery at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL. He was loved by his colleagues and patients alike and was known for always going the extra mile. He was also dedicated to Organizational Neurosurgery, serving as President of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons from 2010 to 2011. He married Kathy Leonard and to this union came two sons, Christopher (Wilmette) and Oliver (Wilmette). He married Dr. Gale England in 2004 and they resided in Hinsdale, IL. In addition to his older sons, Dr. Getch is survived by his beloved wife, Gale, their sons, Charles and William, of Hinsdale, IL, and a sister Holly (Noel) Clarke of Summerville, MA. There will be a celebration of Dr. Getch’s life on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church 120 East First St. in Hinsdale, IL.60521. MULLINIX
Ilse G. Mullinix, at age 89, died in Hinsdale, on Nov. 20th. Born in Germany in 1921, she came to America with her family in 1924, where they lived in Chicago until 1930, when they moved to Hinsdale, Illinois and where she lived until her death. In 1949 she married Bert Mullinix in the Union Church of Hinsdale where they immediately became members. She was a member of the Chancel Choir in that church for 50 years, during which time she was a lyric soprano soloist for many years. Singing was one of the greatest joys of her life. For several years she had the leads in the musical productions given at the Brush Hill Summer Theater in Hinsdale. She also did some semi-professional singing throughout the City of Chicago, its large churches and with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra chorus. She was also a 15-year member of The Tower Chorale since its inception. She was a longtime member of the PEO Sisterhood, Chapter CK in Hinsdale. After 45 wonderful years of service with The Northern Trust Company in Chicago she retired in 1985 as Executive Secretary to the then Chairman and CEO E. Norman Staub. She and her husband for many years enjoyed traveling extensively both in the United States and Europe, as well as many other parts of the world, mainly with their good friends, the Bennetts. She was preceded in death by her Husband Bert; her parents Lisbeth and Rudolph Glieve; her sisters Charlotte Pfeiffer, Gertrude Glieve, Lucy Glieve and her dear niece Carol Homerding. Survivors include her sister's children Margaret Pfeiffer, Norman (Mary) Pfeiffer, Linda Pfeiffer and a great many grand and great-nieces and nephews of both the Pfeiffer and Mullinix families. Ilse always spoke glowingly, especially in her last years, about how grateful she was for the great love and support she received from her wonderful family and the many great friends who were always there for her. There will be a memorial service held at the Union Church of Hinsdale, 137 S. Garfield, at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 28. Jacquelynn (Jackie) Vogt, longtime resident of Hinsdale, IL passed away on Monday, August 8, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 71 years old. She graduated from Hinsdale Central High School and went to work in her family’s business, The Hinsdale News Agency, which she later owned with her brother. Jackie later became a babysitter and “adopted grandmother” to many children. She was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by the families she helped to raise. In later years, Jackie was active in the auto club and classic car clubs. She served at the first woman president of The Greater Illinois Region of the Classic Car Club. Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Caroline Spinazola.
